Breaking a taboo: Artist Talks about Art

Its a   tabooo. Right, "A painter communicates through his canvas. why does he need words".

So I was not sure when i  decided to talk about my work at one of my recent exhibitions. But I think it was important as it gave a launchpad for viewers to see the paintings through painters eyes.

This is the first time i was addressing a group and artists are not very extrovert. But I did it.
Thanks to my lovely daughter who found out the essence of my works in a poem by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It summed up my works nicely.

The poem is titled "Suraj aur Os ki Boondh". and talks about the Lasting sun and the ever so temporary dew drop (os ki boondh).  I am not able to find it on Internet so I guess I will have to type it in or ask Preeti to do it for me. (hopefully soon).

Meanwhile, who thought this could lead to me giving a presentation altogether. to a distinguished Panel about Art. It was a fantabulous challenge and I enjoyed it to the hilt.

My Website Hacked

Hi Folks

Last month had been a busy one ... especially since my website was hacked. by some "विघ्न - संतोंषी" people.

There was a lot of stuff in there and talking to my hosting provider did not help me much..The best option I  had was to restore from last backup.that I had myself.

Obviously a lot of data was lost and I am trying to get it back But there is very little chance.

Anyway .. life is about moving on and so Here I am. ... :)

Hyderabad exhibition of Paintings - A womans heart @ Alankritha Art Gallery

A Woman’s heart.

Mix, with sunset's fleeting glow,

Kiss of friend, and stab of foe,

Ooze of moon, and foam of brine,

Noose of Thug, and creeper's twine,

Hottest flame, and coldest ash,

Priceless gems, and poorest trash;

Throw away the solid part,

And behold—a woman's heart.

- Nidrádarpana

My Art on Cover Page of SPAN magazine

One happy news to share with my readers. I have won the 50th anniversary Cover Art contest organized by SPAN. My Painting will be on the cover page of SPAN magazine for Jan/Feb 2011 issue. (also as a winning gift i will be getting an Apple iPad) .

Ever since my childhood as far back as i remember, we received SPAN magazine. Even in those days (30 yrs back) the magazine had superb paper quality and photograph quality images. All other mags were simply black and white or at most poor quality photographs. No wonder we always waited for this one magazine to be delivered by our postman and be the first to smell between the pages.

When i heard of SPAN orgazining a painting competition, all those past memories flooded down to create the one painting that summarised what India and US meant to me.

Here is the painting

Title : Contemplating Reflections
Writeup : If one wants to compare two countries there can not be a more diverse set than India and US. With their differences in culture and ways of working, its not without reason they are termed Mystical East and Corporate West. They have looked at each others reflections to leverage their differences and make world a better place

Hope you enjoy it.

PS: Congrates to Rupesh Bhandari who won the writing essay contest on topic "What can US and India accomplish together" . Looking forward to meet you at SPAN anniversary function.
